Google’s smartphone platform, Android, has acquired 48 percent of the global smartphone market in Q2 of 2011, according to a report by market research firm Canalys.

The report shows that Android was the number one platform in 35 of 56 countries.

Apple’s iOS came in a close second with just 19 percent of the market share. Wait a sec…that’s not so close.

Don’t get me wrong…I love Apple. I’m a big fan of iMacs, Macbooks, iPhones, and iPads. However, I’m not too fond of all the restrictions that go along with iPhones and iPads.

And what about visiting a Flash-based website? Apple won’t let you.

Great job Google! It just goes to show that as long as you keep giving the consumer what they want…you can rule the world (at least 48% of it).

What are your thoughts on Google’s smartphone domination?
